Made It Monday - Rainbow cushion

This cushion was made some time ago for a floral showcase, using a block motif called The Crocodile Flower.

I just love the combination of rainbow colours on one side, and plain white on the other. I think the wonderful textures in this beautiful pattern go equally well in one colour or multicolour.

The Crocodile Flower is by Joyce Lewis and can be found as a free Ravelry download here

Calisthenics - Practice pays off

Julia (Miss Six) was fabulous in her second Calisthenics Solo competition for the year.

She put in lots of practice during the past three weeks and it paid off as she received third place in her age group. She was totally thrilled to receive a trophy!

Look at the huge grin on her face! She is pictured here with her coach Hannah, to whom all thanks must go for her ongoing efforts and friendship. What a wonderful achievement for both of you!

One more solo competition to go...

If you'd like to find out more, please take a look at Calisthenics ACT if you are in Canberra like me, or Calisthenics Australia for more information about Calisthenics in other states.

The Gallery - In my youth

Joining Sticky Fingers for The Gallery... the theme this week is Youth.

This photo of me and my sister was taken when I was 12.

In my youth I had two main interests: Calisthenics and Girl Guides. I loved both.

Made It Monday - Tardis cushion cover

More of the Doctor this week! I made this cushion because I wanted to try some crochet in tapestry style and this looked more interesting than a straight forward pattern.

Here is the front:

And the back:

It has a button closure at the side and is about 38 x 38cm to fit a 35cm square cushion insert.

The Tardis chart is by April Folts from April Draven Designs and can be found hereThe spiral on the back of the cushion was inspired by a tutorial from The Crochet Case which can be found here

A little bit retro

To celebrate the Centenary of Canberra this year, and also the last day of the school term, all the kids at Julia's school wore outfits from different years. Julia's 1/2 class all represented the 60s and 70s.

Julia's retro style dress is a favourite in her wardrobe and one that she wears quite often!

This bright and colourful dress is handmade by Lee-Anne from Hannah Banannas Designs. Take a look on Madeit for her collection of gorgeous clothes which are "bright and girly, fun and twirly!"

The Gallery - A Happy Smile

Joining Sticky Fingers for The Gallery... the theme this week is Happy.

Julia, aged almost 4. A happy smile!

I love the photos where you can tell that her smile is genuine. You can see it in her eyes. As she has grown older, I have found that quite often she will pose for me with a fake smile. I'm sure you know the one I mean - with gritted teeth and grimacing lips. It's not that she isn't happy, it's just that capturing those genuine moments are harder now that she is always on the go!

Made It Monday - "The Doctor" Amigurumi

Hands up who loves the Doctor? The eleventh Doctor and the Tardis were a little fiddly to make, but I am really pleased with my own designs!

The pattern design for the Doctor is adapted from the Luke crochet pattern by Lucy Collin (Lucy Ravenscar) with permission from the designer. You can purchase Lucy's patterns on Etsy here

The Tardis is crocheted in the round, using a multiple of 4 increasing single crochet. It is finished with some ink jet printable iron on fabric, top stitching and a couple of blue beads for the lamp.

Another year, another Easter Egg hunt...

Once again, the Easter Bunny has visited our house on Easter Sunday and left some treasures for Julia to find.

Last year, the Easter bunny left clues for her to follow until she found a basket full of eggs. She had to read and decipher the clues herself and managed with very little help from me.

This year, the Easter Bunny upped the challenge and left harder clues for Miss Six to follow.

Here are the clues for the Easter hunt this year.

If you are looking for some inspiration for next year, you can download or print this sheet in PDF format here. Enjoy!

You can also find Julia's Easter hunt clues from last year here

The Gallery - Three generations together

Joining Sticky Fingers for The Gallery... the theme this week is Together.

A photo of me at age three-and-a-half, together with my mother and grandmother.

I can imagine the day this photo was taken; perhaps a play in the park was suggested on such a beautiful sunny day. I love the togetherness of old family photos - photos taken on special occasions like Christmas or birthdays, snapshots taken on family outings, memories captured forever.

Made It Monday - Star Wars Amigurumi

I absolutely adore these crochet little Star Wars mini figures! Although they were quite intricate in parts, these were not difficult and really fun to make.

The crochet patterns for these are by Lucy Collin (Lucy Ravenscar) which you can purchase on Etsy here

Which is your favourite character?
